Christmas at UCSF

Could be worse, could be Christmas at USPS and we’d be sorting letters all night in exchange for sleeping in the warehouse. Ella is doing so great, so much so that the doctors would like here to immediately go from radiation treatment to extensive rehabilitation.  She is getting stronger every day; today she was lifting [...]

THIS GIRL IS AWAKE!!!!

For almost three months now, Ella has been in a coma, following the removal of a rare and cancerous brain tumor.   About ten days ago, she began opening her eyes for several hours a day.  Then last week she started shaking her head back and forth and moving her legs.  She is now smiling and [...]

Ella is coming home!!

We’re hoping that Ella will be coming home towards the end of December, just before Christmas.  Both of our families will for sure be having big Christmas celebrations if Ella is home.  Mike, Ella’s grandfather and Cathi, Ella’s grandmother have been helping the four of us, staying with Ella at UCSF.  This has been incredibly [...]

Back at the hospital

Due to illness, Alycia and I were away from the hospital for awhile.  Thankfully Alycia’s mother Cathi, father Mike, and husband Mark, all three took turns staying with Ella at UCSF.  Tremendous act of love and support from all three of them, and whatever issues arose between Cathi and I weeks ago, are now forgotten.  [...]

Thank You

Alycia and I have been sick this week; Deb, Mark and Alycia’s mom Cathi have taken over for us staying with Ella.  It has been comforting knowing that they are there with her, as Alycia and I get a much needed break to recharge.  Thank you so much Cathi and Mark for your help and [...]

Glitter Wave.

When Ella was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a wave of anxiety and frustration washed over me and I have remained barely treading water in this sea of stress and sadness for over three months now.  I’m not the only one a few tear drops away from having those waters overtake them completely.  Alycia is [...]

An update from Deb…

Deb here, Step-mom to Ella, wife to Glen, and friend to Alycia (Ella’s mom).  It’s been weeks since I have written a blog, but with the recent changes, I feel now is the time to share my experience. It’s been just over a week since Ella was transferred to UCSF.  Ella is out of the [...]

Waiting.

It’s 10:45 on Election night, here at UCSF.  I’ve just laid down on the chair/bed and will now attempt to get some sleep.  This will be virtually impossible as there are beeps and fans and suctioning sounds happening all around Ella’s room. I put Enya on the Ipod for Ella, I hope that helps her, [...]
