Ella has been in the hospital now for four months. When I stop and really think about this, it just amazes me what she has been through, what all of us have been through, and that we’re just now getting a chance to go home and start her long rehabilitation and new life. Ella was in a coma for almost three months, she is now making such progress that the doctors are left speechless. I now see on their faces that they never thought she would wake up, and are just as amazed as we are, that she did.
When we go home Ella will go back to the same visitation schedule that Alycia and I had worked out before Ella’s cancer. Alycia and I won’t be able to go back to work, Ella will be our sole focus, her rehab and care will be a full-time job, and the only break we’ll get is when Ella goes to the other persons house, although I suspect the schedule will change from day to day depending on her health.
Our insurance will only pay for one set of medical equipment, hospital bed, feeding machine, etc. This means that we’ll need to purchase, on our own, another set of equipment. We also have to have two wheelchair ramps built at each of our houses, the longer one needed at my house, as access to my house is more difficult. We are in need of help to assist us with the purchase of this equipment and the materials for the ramps (I’ll be building the ramps, but I’m open to help from anyone who knows what they’re doing, as I’ll be winging it).
Please make a donation to Ella’s rehab fund by clicking the link to the right of the blog. We know these are still hard times for everyone, unemployment, lower wages and we also know that most of you who are reading this and who follow Ella’s story, have already donated, probably many times before. We appreciate this so much, more than you’ll ever know. We have a couple of ideas for fundraising events in the next few months, one of which is an auction which will feature a “Win a day with Ella” prize, where you’ll get to take her out for a full 24 hours! I’m totally kidding, but we are planning an auction and Ella will be at the event so many of you who have never had the privilege of meeting this incredible girl, will get the chance to and will see just how amazing she is, and why helping her and her family is so worth it.
Trust me, we’re all worth it!!
I’ll post some more rehab videos in the next couple of days, and thank you all again and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
This truly will be a happy new year for us, we have our daughter back!!
AND PLEASE spread the word about Ella’s story, it’s very compelling, it’s full of drama and hope, and would make a great made-for-tv movie, maybe featured on the Lifetime network (joking again, can you tell I’m happier or what?).

Very happy that Ella is going to be able to come home. As I read your latest entry, I had the same thought as Summer. A consistent envireoment might be better. Maybe the rehab people could give you some imput on the subject. Again, so happy to see Ella is progressing in the right direction.
Wow, just amazing! Happy New Year for sure!
Now I dont know you and this isnt my business so just ignore it if you wish. But it seems from reading your posts that you and Alycia are AMAZING parents and are all able to work together so well on this whole thing. Would it be possible to set up your house as Ellas home and Alycias house as the one you all stay at when the other parent is with Ella. It would save you money and it would give Ella a consistent enviroment for a while longer. I just know from working with patients with brain trama that change, even familiar change can slow progress and depending on your situation this could benefit everyone. Just a thought, ignore it if you wish. And again happy happy new year!!
HURRAH, HURRAH, HURRAH! Ella is going home! This has made my day. Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful and joyous news.
On that note, I too, would like to help with a fundraiser in honor of Ella, and I know of two places that sponser fundraisers. At your earliest convenience, please get in touch with me at my work #, 525-0600, for further details. I truly look forward to hearing back from you.
Until then, sending you lots of hugs and best wishes for you, Ella and your family.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! YEAH!!!!
