Ella Speaks!

My daughter’s first words after returning from the darkness of a silent, three month, coma.

“I Love You”

Tell me this isn’t a girl worth loving, with every ounce of your being.  I heard my daughter speak today, after preparing myself to never hear her incredible voice again, except on home movies and audio recordings.  I was overwhelmed, I broke down in front of all the nurses who were helping Ella sit up, while she practiced speaking.  Not that she needed much help sitting up on the edge of the bed, as her back and neck muscles are very strong, and with a few more days of practice relearning how to use them, she will be doing it all on her own.

Ella was surprised to hear her voice and spent most of the time making squeaking sounds and humming a lot.  But she managed to get the “I love you” out, which she had been practicing mouthing to us for the past 4 days.

What is this feeling I’m feeling?  It’s not envy or hungry.  I think this feeling is what we call, a feeling.  I’m really going through something here, I know.

    Dear Glen,

It is so great to read these latest blogs!!! Every day seems to get better and better. I can’t help but think you’re getting the miracle you asked for – in slo-mo, maybe – but a miracle every single day, nonetheless!

    Thanks for sharing with us.

    Dear Glen,

The sweetest three words in the whole wide world…..I Love You. That is such wonderful news.

I hope someday, you, Ella and your family are able to share your story with the rest of the world, because there are too many people out there that “just don’t get it!”

Taking life for granted, walking around like they own it, and not stopping to “Smell the Roses,” is what I see happening around us, and it’s very sad.

Ella have a lot of followers, believers and just a whole bunch of people who stop, in the midst of their day, to check in, say hi and to see how all of you are doing. These are the kind of people who make a difference in this world.

It would be such a pleasure to meet all of you, especially, Ella. Your lifes trials and trivials have been very tough, not to mention a huge challenge, yet, by taking it one day at a time, Ella is pulling through because of your love and determiniation for her survival.

You truly put the meaning in “BEST DAD IN WHOLE WIDE WORLD!”

    Yours Truly,
    Sara

    Glen,
That is the most wonderful thing on this planet. I have been following your story and it touches my heart to the fullest to hear that she is responding so well. During my daughters journey I have met many people in our same situation. It is so wonderful to hear of these triumphes that are so much bigger now than they ever were before. It truely is a blessing. And as much as this situation is probably the worst thing on this planet it is also a blessing in disguise…it makes you cherish the small things that many of us forget in life. So cherish every moment and enjoy your little girl coming back to you. That is wonderful and the best holiday present that anyone could ever get! I hope to meet you one day and I am sure we will, whether it is at UCSF or here in Sonoma County.

    Best wishes and much happiness!
    Sarah
